JK Rowling is once again at the center of controversy, this time for posting an upskirt image of trans writer Freda Wallace while publicly demanding that she engage in a debate. In a series of posts on X, Rowling insisted Wallace, who had previously called her an 'idiot,' should debate her. Despite Wallace's lack of response—she has the author blocked—Rowling took matters into her own hands and shared a picture of Wallace in a miniskirt and fishnet stockings, taken from below, implying the trans woman was refusing to engage with her.

This photograph, taken during a debate on 'Does transgender ideology threaten liberal values?' hosted by the Institute of Economic Affairs earlier this year, has drawn sharp criticism. Many have pointed out that if Rowling would not post such an image of a cis woman, why is it acceptable to do so with a trans woman? Rowling’s supporters even went so far as to misidentify Wallace's visible thigh as a scrotum, a claim that highlights the absurdity of the situation and Rowling's intentions.

In her posts, Rowling referred to Wallace using her deadname and misgendered her, displaying the kind of trans-exclusionary rhetoric that has become her trademark. Critics have noted that Rowling's framing of trans identity as an 'ideology' is a deliberate tactic used by anti-trans activists to delegitimize the existence of trans individuals.
