Milo Yiannopoulos, the controversial far-right provocateur, has been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. Described by a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson as 'an illegal alien from the United Kingdom,' Yiannopoulos legally entered the U.S. in May 2019 but overstayed his visa. An immigration judge issued a final order of removal for him on July 22 after he failed to attend his immigration hearing.

Currently held at an ICE detention center in Alexandria, Louisiana, Yiannopoulos' arrest comes amid a backdrop of his contentious public persona, which has included targeting transgender individuals and Muslims. His past controversies, including being disinvited from the Conservative Political Action Conference in 2017 due to a video that appeared to condone relationships between adults and underage boys, have led to significant backlash.

Notably, Yiannopoulos was also banned from entering Australia in 2019 on character grounds and has faced bans from major social media platforms. His recent work included a role with Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, who is scheduled to perform in New Orleans soon.
