All aboard The Carriage: St Kilda's newest bar opens soon

Victoria's oldest railway station is welcoming a new bar and beer garden this September.

The Fifth Province in St Kilda is about to expand its offerings with The Carriage Bar and Beer Garden, set to open its doors on 15 September. This new venue marks Ganley Group's first dedicated event space, nestled within the iconic St Kilda Railway Station, believed to be Victoria’s oldest surviving railway station.

The Carriage Bar boasts an indoor dining area, while The Verandah serves as a sun-drenched outdoor terrace. For sports lovers, the Beer Garden features a massive 150-inch screen, perfect for catching the latest matches. Each area is designed with a nod to traditional Irish pubs, complete with solid American oak panelling, brass fixtures, and textured walls crafted by local artisans.

Notably, a series of hand-painted gilded mirrors by artist Bodie Jarman adds a distinctive touch, reflecting light and warmth throughout the space. The venue is set to cater to every season, offering a cozy atmosphere in winter and an inviting outdoor experience as the weather warms.

Culinary offerings, curated by executive chef Jeremy Sutphin, range from canapés and cocktails to hearty sit-down meals. Highlights include mini beef and Guinness pies and a delightful hot sticky date pudding. For those looking to indulge, an Irish whiskey flight features renowned labels like Redbreast and Bushmills.

The ethos behind The Carriage is rooted in community, inspired by founder Liam Ganley’s Irish heritage, where pubs serve as social anchors. With a capacity of 120, it’s geared up to become a lively hub for both locals and visitors alike.
