Sophia Laforteza, the frontwoman of the pop group Katseye, is taking a step back from the Wildworld tour to prioritize her mental health. The announcement comes just before the tour's kickoff on September 1 in Dublin, a decision made after she revealed she has been undergoing ongoing treatment.
In a heartfelt message, Sophia shared on social media, "You can’t pour from an empty cup," a reminder of the importance of self-care in a demanding industry. The news follows a series of challenges for the group, including the cancellation of their performance at Olivia Rodrigo's Daisy Chain Fields festival due to another member, Megan Skiendiel, sustaining an injury.
The record label, HYBE and Geffen Records, expressed their commitment to supporting Sophia during this time, urging fans to understand the decision. Sophia conveyed her disappointment in not being able to perform, stating, "I can’t express enough how much I want to participate in this tour and perform for you all. I have to remind myself every day that our health and mental well-being should always be prioritized."
Katseye's year has been marked by changes, with other members also stepping back recently for health reasons. While Sophia's hiatus is not open-ended, it raises questions about the pressures artists face and the importance of mental health in the music scene.
