Team Perth seeks board nominations ahead of inaugural AGM

As Perth gears up for its first AGM, Team Perth is inviting community members to step up for leadership roles.

Team Perth is rallying the passion of Western Australia's LGBTQIA+ community by opening nominations for leadership and portfolio roles ahead of its inaugural Annual General Meeting on Thursday, September 17, 2026. This AGM is a significant milestone for the organization, which is keen to strengthen its governance and expand support for LGBTQIA+ sporting clubs as Perth gears up to host the Gay Games in 2030.

The organization is seeking candidates for elected positions including Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer, along with various portfolio director roles. These portfolios cover essential areas such as Marketing & Communications, Membership & Club Engagement, Events & Community Engagement, Partnerships & Sponsorship, Governance & Inclusion, and Research & Policy. Janet Bolton and Dee Farrell will continue in their roles as the International Sport & Gay Games Liaison and in the Legacy portfolio, respectively, while also representing Team Perth on the Perth Gay Games Board.

Current Chair Justin Barnes expressed his commitment to the organization, stating, "I will be nominating for Chair again at our inaugural AGM because I strongly believe in how far Team Perth has come, what we can achieve, and the opportunity we now have to build stronger connections locally, nationally, and globally."

Barnes is eager for more community members to bring their experience and ideas to Team Perth, emphasizing the importance of building a lasting legacy that supports existing clubs and fosters new LGBTQIA+ sporting communities.

Key dates: - Nominations close: 11:59 PM, September 10, 2026 - AGM: September 17, 2026, at Common Exchange, Level 1, 926 Hay Street, Perth WA 6000. In-person attendance is preferred, with Microsoft Teams available for remote participation.
