Tennessee school pays $10K for blocking gay teen's graduation

In a post on April 23, 2025, Armstrong shared a photo with her girlfriend, which led the school to accuse her of making 'vulgar and disrespectful' remarks about them. The school's officials summoned her and her parents, warning that if she continued to 'slander' the school online, they would withhold her diploma and share her posts with potential colleges.

Armstrong's family took legal action, arguing that she never mentioned the school in her post. Their attorney, Daniel Horwitz, highlighted that the school’s actions were unjust, stating, 'School is a place where every student is entitled to feel welcome, accepted, and supported.' Ultimately, the school backtracked on its initial threats, and the settlement not only compensates Armstrong but also protects her from any further disparagement by the school to colleges and universities.
