Three men were stabbed outside G-Bar in Liverpool early Sunday morning, and police are calling it what it is: an attack that could have been worse.

Officers were called to Tithebarn Street at 6.35am on Sunday, September 20, after the men were found injured outside the queer venue on Eberle Street. Two are in hospital in stable condition. The third suffered minor injuries. All three were taken for assessment. Police have recovered the suspected weapon and sent it for forensic examination.

Blake Chen, 30, who lives in the Silkhouse Court tower block on Tithebarn Street, was woken by screaming around 5.30am. By the time he looked out, police cars and ambulances had arrived and cordons were going up.

Those cordons — across Tithebarn Street, Eberle Street and Temple Lane — were still in place hours later as CCTV, forensic and witness enquiries continued. Detective Chief Inspector Lisa McNaughton said police understand the concern such a serious incident will cause in the community, which is why anyone with information needs to come forward as a matter of urgency.

Here is what she said: "The consequences of this incident could have been even worse so be assured that we will relentlessly pursue the offender."

Relentlessly. That is the word for a Sunday morning outside a queer bar where three men were stabbed and a resident woke to screaming. It appears some form of altercation broke out near G-Bar, McNaughton said, resulting in the three victims sustaining injuries. Police will do all they can to identify the person responsible and support the victims as the investigation progresses.

There will be an increased police presence carrying out enquiries, she said. If you saw or captured any part of this incident, let them know and they will take action.

Anyone with information can contact Merseyside Police via X or Facebook @MerPolCC, report via their website, or call 101 quoting incident reference 26000771554. Crimestoppers takes anonymous reports on 0800 555 111.

The cordon is still up. The community is still waiting.
