ACON's bringing service stalls to Parramatta Pride Picnic this Saturday, which sounds corporate until you remember it's western Sydney's largest Pride event and 18 years in, still free.

The picnic runs 11am to 7pm on Saturday 10 October at Parramatta Park Bowling Green. ACON is one of three organisers—alongside Inclusive Events and Parramatta Queer Forum, part of ACON's Inclusive Communities Networks—with a dedicated team of volunteer event organisers.

Free entry. Licensed bar. Food trucks. Market stalls from community and corporate partners. Drag kings and queens, DJs, cultural entertainment, kids' activities, and it's dog-friendly.

That mix is the mechanism. Western Sydney has thinner queer infrastructure than the inner city, fewer permanent venues, and corporate Pride sponsorship is harder to sustain out here. So you build a day that works for families, for first-timers, for people who aren't sure if Pride is for them yet, and for the regulars who've been coming for eighteen years. You make it free so entry cost isn't the barrier. You put the service stalls where people are already having a good time, so accessing support doesn't require a separate trip to Surry Hills.

ACON's stalls will be on site. The organisation's website lists the event under its news section, confirming its participation, though it doesn't specify which services will be available on the day.

The after-party is back for its fourth year, a T-dance that keeps the park going into the evening. Licensed area, curated beers, wines and cocktails, and you can meander responsibly all afternoon if that's your speed.

Parramatta Pride Picnic is one of the state's regional Pride festivals ACON supports across NSW. It sits in October alongside Newcastle Pride, Lake Macquarie Pride, Coastal Twist on the Central Coast, and Leeton Rainbow Pride. The northern summer calendar runs from Tropical Fruits in Lismore over New Year through to Sydney Mardi Gras in Feb/March, then south coast and inland events through winter and spring.

Saturday's event is the largest in the west. Eighteen years running, still free, still volunteer-organised, still drawing the crowd.

Eleven to seven. Parramatta Park. Bring the dog.
