Liverpool to cast The Vivienne in bronze at Pride Quarter entrance

Liverpool will install a permanent life-size statue of The Vivienne at the entrance to the city’s Pride Quarter. The tribute marks a rare piece of public art dedicated to a contemporary drag figure and makes a statement about queer visibility in the city.

Liverpool will install a permanent life-size statue of The Vivienne at the entrance to the city's Pride Quarter. The figure will stand where the quarter meets the wider street, visible to passersby and visitors.

The Vivienne is a Liverpool-born drag performer who won RuPaul's Drag Race UK. She has been one of the most recognisable British drag personalities since her victory and a frequent representative of UK drag on TV and stage.

Placing the statue at the Pride Quarter gateway is a deliberate choice. It signals that drag and queer culture are part of the city's public story, not just backstage or behind closed doors.

Public monuments to living queer performers are uncommon. This piece joins a small but growing movement to put LGBTQ+ figures into civic space and into everyday sightlines.

Details on the artist, fabrication and unveiling date are still to be confirmed. Expect a lot of photos. Expect pride, plenty of sequins and a new selfie destination on Bold Street.
